Do you recall that feeling when someone sends you a card in the mail? Excitement, wonder, and happiness fill your heart as you eagerly rip open the envelope to see what’s inside.
Often, those cards are purchased at a store, but imagine opening that envelope and finding a handmade piece of art in your hands. You feel so loved when you realize the time and effort the sender put into making this special card just for you. That’s what cardmaking is all about!
Card makers use various materials and techniques to personalize their creations, including cardstock, patterned paper, stamps, ink, embellishments, and adhesives to hold them all together. The process involves folding and layering different elements to create beautiful designs and adding sentiments or messages to convey heartfelt wishes.
Making something meaningful to send others brings card makers great joy. Your thoughtful sentiments will brighten the days of family and friends who receive your handmade creations. I developed a four step process to card making to help you get started spreading the joy,
Four Steps in C.A.R.D. Making
Getting started is as easy as 1-2-3-4 or C.A.R.D.!
Cardstock
Cardstock is used for card bases and adding layers to your base. You can purchase precut card bases or cut your own from cardstock. Use heavier cardstock for card bases and lighter cardstock for adding layers so the card doesn’t get too heavy.
Add Artistic Designs
There are many ways to add artistic designs to a card, including stamped images, punches, die cuts, and more! The artwork can be a simple image or an elaborately colored scene.
Remember the Reason
Sentiments can be added using a stamped word or phrase on the card’s front and inside. You may even want to add your own handwritten designs, stickers, or cutouts if you have them from other crafting projects.
Dazzling Details
To elevate any card, take the time to add a few dazzling details. Rhinestones, pearls, ribbon, string, or a bow are just a few of the embellishments you can add to dress up a card.
